Getting Started
The information provided is intended to be used by individuals involved in maintaining a CIMnet community site. In order to access the tools discussed you must first obtain a log-in name and password from your web site Administrator.
Logging In
After I log in, I get the editing icons on the page, but when I click to add or edit an item, I get an "access denied" message.
You need to have cookies enabled in your browser in order to edit content. We need to use the cookies to keep track of the fact that you are logged in as you edit information.
I've lost my login point somehow. I've accidentally deleted it or hidden it from the public. How do I log back in to my site?

Content on a CIMnet web site is separated into Content Chains and Items. A Content Chain usually originates from a link on the navigation menu, either at the top or the left side or the screen. The links lead to a series of Items which make up the Chain. Items can be short or long, and can contain one or more types of content, such as simple text, html, an image, a file, an e-mail form, a link, a calendar, a map, a weather flyout, a table of contents, a log in field, or a text search. Each Item has privileges assigned to it indicating who can see it and who can edit it. Generally speaking, the more types of content an Item has, the more complicated (and difficult to edit) it becomes, so it is a good idea to keep each Item reasonably small and simple.

Most Content Editors (people who can add or update content on a CIMnet web site) only have access to designated parts of the site, or Items. Each Item on a CIMnet site has security information attached to it which indicates who is allowed to see and alter that particular piece of content. By logging in, you have told the server that you need to see and use the editing tools attached to your particular bit of content.

Not all Content Editors will have access to all the tools - some may be able to update a piece of content but will not be able to delete it or create new Items. Also, different sites may have access to different resources; calendars and maps are not accessible to every site.
